I find myself thanking God on my knees for men like Simeon. Seriously. He was the bomb. He was a radical lover of the Lord and walked with the Holy Spirit. We don't think much of this now but the Holy Spirit, while very active in all of human history, was not as obvious just as Jesus, while active, was not yet made obvious. Yet the Holy Spirit was upon him in radical ways. And why wouldn't He be? Simeon honored the Lord. He was righteous and devout and was in expectation of the promises of God. When the Holy Spirit moved him, he was responsive with his actions. When the Scriptures said there would be a Comforter for Israel, even though it had not come to pass in hundreds of years, Simeon believed. And when the Holy Spirit revealed that he would see the Messiah, even though He was old he kept on waiting though not seeing. Simeon and God's Holy Spirit had such a beautiful relationship--trust, leadership, responsiveness, conviction. Oh how I want to be like Simeon!
